‘Many countries attracted to UPI’: PM Modi praises digital India, calls for plastic replacement more in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed  that many nations are interested in India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
Speaking on the 98th episode of “Mann Ki Baat,” Prime Minister Modi said that the e-Sanjeevani App and UPI (Unified Payments Interface) system are shining examples of the power of Digital India.
“Many countries of the world are drawn towards India’s UPI. Only a few days ago, UPI-PayNow Link has been launched between India and Singapore. Now, people of Singapore and India are transferring money from their mobile phones in the same way as they do within their respective countries,” PM Modi said.
Earlier RBI had said that after Singapore, the RBI is in talks with several countries, including Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, and Mauritius, to set up a direct payment link of the UPI with networks in these countries to enable speedier and less expensive fund transfers via mobile phones.
A senior RBI official told reporters on the sidelines of the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors summit that other Latin American countries have also expressed interest.
“The power of Digital India is visible everywhere. The E-Sanjeevani app is helping in teleconsultation with doctors. I congratulate doctors and people for using this app. It helped a lot during the pandemic time,” PM Modi said
PM Modi also praised a social worker from Odisha, Kamala Moharana who runs a self-help group in her efforts towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India movement).
In the series, he also called for Indians to replace plastic bags with cloth bags for daily shopping.
“At least we all should take a pledge to replace plastic bags with cloth bags. You will see, how much satisfaction your resolution will give you, and also inspire other people,” the Prime Minister said in his radio program.
