PM’s mega roadshow in Meghalaya: Shillong echoes with ‘Modi-Modi’ chants

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a massive roadshow in poll-bound Meghalaya ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. A sea of crowd spilled out on both sides of the road to greet the PM as he waved to the crowd..
The crowd chanted ‘Modi-Modi’ in excitement as the PM’s convoy passed through the streets of Shillong. With Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) flags in hands, supporters waited on the road for hours just to catch a glimpse of the PM.
This is the first visit of PM Modi to Meghalaya in 2023. Folk artists performed traditional dance to welcome PM to the state. The roadshow will be conducted from Central Library to the Police Bazar.
PM will also pay floral tributes to three freedom fighters of Meghalaya, U Tirot Sing, U Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma in Shillong. Special security arrangements have been made in Shillong for the PM’s visit with more than 1000 security personnel deployed in the city.
 PM Modi will also address an election campaign rally at Alotgre Stadium in Tura in Garo Hills. Notably, the rally was originally scheduled to be held at PA Sangma Stadium in Tura but the state government denied permission citing the ongoing construction on the location
On February 15, BJP President JP Nadda released the party’s election manifesto for Meghalaya in the state capital Shillong. The manifesto promises implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in Meghalaya and the timely disbursal of salaries of government employees and many other promises in favour of the state.
The party is contesting on all 60 seats in the states. The Assembly polls are scheduled to be held on February 27 and the counting of votes will be done on March 2.
