Amid the Opposition’s repeated attacks at the Centre over the Hindenburg’s report on Adani group, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that there is nothing “for the BJP to hide or be afraid of”.
The Centre told the Supreme Court that it has no objection to a proposal for setting up a panel of domain experts to look into strengthening the regulatory mechanisms for the stock market The top court was hearing pleas relating to the Adani stocks rout after the Hindenburg report.
Asked about the Hindenburg report, Shah told ANI, “The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the matter. As a minister, if the Supreme Court is seized of the matter it is not right for me to comment. But in this, there is nothing for the BJP to hide and nothing to be afraid of.”
The Opposition has been targeting the Modi government over the recent Hindenburg report on the Adani group and has pressed for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi last week launched a scathing opposition attack in Lok Sabha over the Hindenburg report, claiming that the meteoric rise in business tycoon Gautam Adani’s fortunes happened after the BJP came to power in 2014. Gandhi also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked how much money Adani has given to the BJP in the last 20 years, including through electoral bonds.
The Adani Group has called the Hindenburg report a “malicious combination of selective misinformation and stale, baseless and discredited allegations that have been tested and rejected by India’s highest courts”.
