DGCA slaps Rs 20 lakh penalty on Air Asia for violating rules; Know about other disciplinary actions against airline

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has slapped a penalty of Rs 20 lakh on budget carrier Air Asia for violating rules, ET NOW reported on Saturday.
Also, the regulator has suspended the airline’s Head of Training for three months, the report said.
A penalty of Rs 3 lakh has been imposed on each on the eight designated examiners of Air Asia (India) for failing to discharge their duties as per applicable DGCA civil aviation requirements.
It was observed by the regulator that a few mandatory exercises of the pilots of the carrier were not done during Pilot Proficiency.
The aviation regulator had issued show-cause notices to the concerned manager, head of training, and all designated examiners of the airline, asking why enforcement action should not be taken against them for not following regulatory obligations. After receiving their written replies and examining them, action has been taken.
Airlines have under additional scrutiny for some time in the country because of reporting of mechanical failures mid-air, and more recently due to the crew’s handling of unruly passengers.
