Indian skipper Rohit Sharma created history as he became the first Indian skipper to score centuries in all three formats of the game. By scoring his first Test century against Australia on Day 2 of the first Test of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Test series, which is taking place at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, Rohit entered his name in the history books. The right-handed batter was playing only his third Test as Indian skipper and 46th overall. By reaching the triple-figure mark, he achieved the milestone that even the legendary Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni failed to achieve despite leading the side in more than 100 matches altogether.
Rohit scored his maiden ODI century as Indian skipper against Sri Lanka on December 13, 2017 in Mohali. In that match, he led the side in the absence of Virat Kohli, and remained unbeaten on 208. His first and only T20I century as Indian skipper was also against Sri Lanka. On December 22, 2017 in Indore, he scored 118.
By scoring a Test century now as the Indian skipper after reaching the triple-figure mark in T20Is and ODIs, Rohit has joined former South African skipper Faf du Plessis in the elite list. The Proteas international is the only player other than Rohit who has managed to score a century in all three formats of the game as a captain.
India has managed to keep Australia at bay and take a crucial lead in the first innings thanks to Rohit Sharma’s outstanding performance with the bat. The Mumbaikar, who is playing his first Test since March 2022, has scored his second straight century in international cricket. In his previous outing for India, which came against New Zealand on January 24 in Indore, Rohit ended the long wait for the 30th ODI hundred.
