Hours after a massive earthquake struck Turkey, India will send two teams of about 100 personnel with specially trained dog squads and necessary equipment to the earthquake hit area in Turkey for search and rescue operations. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Minister Narendra offer condolences over the lossof live sin the earthquake. He also assured that India stood in solidarity with Turkish people.
PM Modi tweeted, “Anguished by the loss of lives and damage of property due to the Earthquake in Turkey. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. India stands in solidarity with the people of Turkey and is ready to offer all possible assistance to cope with this tragedy.”
P K Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister held a meeting in South Block to discuss immediate relief measures. It was decided that Search & Rescue Teams of NDRF and Medical Teams along with relief material would be dispatched immediately in coordination with the Government of Republic of Turkiye.
“Two teams of NDRF comprising 100 personnel with specially trained dog squads and necessary equipment are ready to be flown to the earthquake hit area for search & rescue operations. Medical Teams are also being readied with trained doctors and paramedics with essential medicines,” the PMO said. Relief material will be dispatched in coordination with the Government of Republic of Turkiye and Indian Embassy in Ankara and Consulate General office in Istanbul.
A powerful earthquake of 7.8 magnitude rocked southeastern Turkey and northern Syria early Monday. Around 1,300 people lost their lives in the quake. Hundreds of buildings were also damaged. Many people are still reported to be trapped under debris. The death toll is expected to rise. Another powerful quake measuring 7.6 on the Richter Scale rattled the southern part of Turkey on Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, On the Syrian side, the area affected by the earthquake is divided between territoris held by the government and rebels. Hundreds of people are also reported to be trapped under ruble..
