Made my debut against Australia, it’s happening again: Dinesh Karthik confuses netizens with cryptic tweet

India will host Australia in the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting February 9. The series will kick off in Nagpur and will end in Ahmedabad. Both the teams have kicked off their preparations for the series at different places. Australia are training in Bengaluru while the Indian players are sweating it out in Nagpur.
A week before the start of the series, Dinesh Karthik posted a cryptic tweet which confused the netizens. Karthik, who has been away from the national setup since the 2022 T20 World Cup, wrote that he is set for another debut against Australia.
“Made my Test debut in India against Australia…Well…It’s happening again!” he wrote on Twitter on Thursday (February 2). Former India opener Aakash Chopra was quick to congratulate Karthik and wished him. But the netizens were confused to see DK’s tweet.
“For whom? Kishan or Bharat,” a user asked. “Le DK coming out of retirement everytime India wants him,” another user wrote.
Dinesh Karthik isn’t playing for Team India again. The senior wicketkeeper-batsman will be making his ‘home’ commentary debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Karthik, who made a shocking return in the T20I side after IPL 2022, had taken up commentary in 2021.
Karthik was out of the national side after the 2019 World Cup and signed up with Sky Sports for the 2021 season. He commentated during the India-England white-ball series but from his home. In June, he travelled to the UK and was in the commentary box for all the matches. He also shared his insights during The Hundred.
Karthik hasn’t performed the commentator’s role in India and is set to make his ‘commentary debut’ against Australia.
As Karthik mentioned in his tweet, his Test debut came against the Kangaroos in 2004. He remained in and out of the side for the next 14 years. Karthik last donned the Test cap during the South Africa tour in 2018.
While his international cricket career now seems to be over, Karthik is expected to play IPL for few more years.
