Rajkumar Santoshi’s recent directorial, Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh, has opened to positive reviews. However, the film has turned out to be a slow runner at the box office. On the other hand, Pathaan, which marks Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback, is creating history with its collection. Both the films were released during the same time.
recently got in touch with Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh‘s Madhu Kandhari to know her thoughts about the BO clash. For those unaware, Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh is about a fictional world where Mahatma Gandhi survives the attack on him by Nathuram Godse.
Talking about the box office clash, the actress said, “I don’t think so there is any kind of clash. 26th January was a very relevant date to release this movie on this kind of subject and it’s amazing that the public is going to the theatre to watch either or. I also feel that it is a very nice and golden week for the film industry with two such mega releases of two absolutely different genres, so kudos to the courage of Rajkumar Santoshi ji I must say who thought of only the best in his mind without any such comparison ever.
Further, when asked if the movie would have performed better had the makers avoided the clash, Madhu said, “There are no such rules at the box office any more. There is no such criteria of the film’s ultimate success whether it’s good at box office or no. I would only say that may the good work and hard work be acknowledged and I pray that everyone gets their fair share of what they deserve. There are cases when a film has not done well at the box office but it picked up later. There are cases when a film had been forgotten but then another generation picked up the film and made it a hit much later in the time, so these days there is no such set formula.”
During the interaction, the actress also talked about Pathaan‘s massive success. She shared, “It’s funny but I haven’t watched it. My friends are loving it, and well done Shah Rukh Khan, he is my favourite, for bringing people back to theatres. I think it is much-needed for our film industry to survive to have such numbers.”
We also asked Madhu if she feels Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh will turn out to be a sleeper hit like The Kashmir Files. Reacting to this, she said, “I just hope that everyone gets to watch it, be it kids, youngsters, couples, moms, dads, grandparents everyone. It’s a beautiful and meaningful film that a family can watch. It nudges you to think and appeals to us in many ways. It arouses the love for our great country, our people, who we are.”
“Though I worked in the film but I got emotional so many times looking at Gandhi ji. In so many places he is shown like a real human. With this, I would just wish the film all the best and of course for a hit,” she added.
