Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who is in Jammu for his Bharat Jodo Yatra, said that he is not happy with what he saw in Jammu and Kashmir. He also launched an attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and said that they have given a vision of hate.
Yesterday, Rahul Gandhi unfurled the national flag at the historic clock tower of Lal Chowk in the heart of Srinagar as part of the Kanyakumari to Kashmir ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’
While speaking to media, Rahul Gandhi said he met lacs of people during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in the state and said that the aim of the foot march is to unite the country, end violence and hate. He also termed it “the most beautiful experience” of his life and thanked the people of the state and those who walked with him during the yatra.
Further, Rahul Gandhi said that the Bharat Jodo Yatra has given an alternate vision while “BJP & RSS gave vision of hate”. He added that the country has two ways of living – one is to suppress and the other is to unite. Rahul Gandhi said that he wanted to reduce gap between people and political leaders as he believes that communication mostly happened through media, press conferences and interviews.
“I am not happy with what I see in Jammu and Kashmir. I feel sadness when I think of the state. A strange idea came to my mind in Jammu, that my family descended from here and went to Allahabad and I am making a reverse journey. I felt I was going home,” Rahul Gandhi said.
The Wayanad MP further spoke about his experience in the state and expressed gratitude for the welcome he received in J&K but also said that statehood and restoration of the democratic process is fundamental and very important. He also said that if the situation is normal then why doesn’t Amit Shah walk from Jammu to Kashmir.
Rahul Gandhi attacks BJP-RSS
“I think what the RSS & BJP are doing is attacking the institutional framework of the country, judiciary, media etc. What you see in J&K is the same assault. When we talk in the parliaments our mics are muted. I want to talk about GST, China… but you can’t. It’s happening all across the country in different ways. As far as I’m concerned I’m very clear, the first step in restoration of statehood and democratic rights.”
Speaking about India-China standoff, he once again claimed that China has taken land of India. He said that while the Central government is under the impression that Chinese haven’t taken any land from India, a Ladakhi delegation clearly said that 2000 sq km of Indian territory was taken by Chinese.
He claimed that they also said that many patrolling points that used to be in India are now firmly in Chinese hands. The approach govt is following by completely denying that the Chinese have taken our land is dangerous. “I will give them more confidence to do more aggressive things. We’ve to deal with the Chinese firmly and tell them they are sitting on our land, it won’t be tolerated,” he added.
Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi concluded on Sunday after the senior Congress leader unfurled the national flag at the historic clock tower of Lal Chowk in the heart of Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the Yatra has spread the message of love to every corner of the country and urged the party’s supporters to unite for taking the nation forward.
