Big tech layoffs: Techies earning up to $1 million a year laid off in Google, others – Details

As big tech layoffs by Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Meta continue to dominate the global news space, the ones actually bearing the brunt of the actions are not only junior-level or non-performing employees. According to details emerging out of tech layoffs 2023, senior executives, earning up to $1 million in annual remuneration are also among those who bore the brunt of the Google layoffs, Microsoft layoffs and Amazon job cuts.
According to a report by The Information, cited by news agency IANS in India, Google layoffs include those individuals who received high performance reviews and even executives holding managerial positions and earning an ‘annual compensation packages of $500,000 to $1 million’

According to the report, the 12000 emplyees fired by Google were from across departments such as – Google Cloud and Chrome to Android and “search-related groups under senior executive Prabhakar Raghavan”. Besides Google’s parent company Alphabet’s in-house research and development (R&D) division Area 120, which was severelly hit, Microsoft’s AltspaceVR virtual reality-based platform has been shut down by the company.
Amazon layoffs 2023 have affected people in services and devices sections. The Amazon job cuts 2023 have affected 2,000 people in hardware chief Dave Limp’s division, the centre that focuses on the development of products such as Alexa and Echo smart home devices. CNBC reported that a significant number of employees were also hit from Amazon’s Prime Air drone delivery project. Amazon is also likely to shut down AmazonSmile, its charity donation programme.
