Sarfaraz Khan is making headlines these days. For the last two seasons, the Mumbai batter has been on fire for his state team, Mumbai, in the Ranji Trophy. He has scored more than 900 runs in each of the last two seasons, and in the ongoing 2022–23 season as well, he has impressed with his show. The 25-year-old cricketer has already scored three centuries in six matches played this season. But despite his dominant show with the bat, he was not selected in the Indian team for the first two Test matches against the Australian team, which will take place in Nagpur and Delhi next month.
There were high chances that the former India U-19 cricketer would get picked for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy matches because of his consistent performances in domestic cricket, but he was not considered and instead the world’s No. 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav earned his maiden India Test call-up along with wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan.
Sarfaraz was disappointed when he did not receive an India call-up, but he responded by scoring a century against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy match earlier this week. Sarfaraz shares a great bond with his father, Naushad Khan, who is also his coach.
And his father has now told a touching story about the Mumbai batter, which also included Arjun Tendulkar, the son of legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. In an interview with The Indian Express, Sarfaraz’s father recalled a past incident in which his son touched his heart by saying a heartwarming line.
Naushad said that when Sarfaraz went for junior games, he used to play and meet Arjun Tendulkar. One day, he came to him and said, “Abbu, Arjun, kitna naseeb wala haina? He has everything in life, like cars, ipads, etc.” The cricketer’s father felt helpless at that time and didn’t say anything, but then the young Sarfaraz came back and gave his dad a tight hug and added, “I am more fortunate than him because my dad gets to spend the whole day with me. Arjun’s father can’t spend enough time with him.”
Sarfaraz is very close to him and regularly posts pictures of his training sessions with his father.
