Zamirullah Khan, the former Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA from Aligarh, has made a controversial statement after some Muslims girl students were allegedly not allowed to enter a college in Moradabad wearing burqa.
When asked to comment on burqa controversy in Moradabad college, Khan said that those who oppose burqa should be paraded naked so that they know what it is like to stay uncovered.
“Banning burqa is completely wrong. If girls want to go to college, then they should be allowed to wear it. There should be no ban on the hijab. And if someone wants to ban it, then that person should be paraded naked. Covering oneself is a culture in India. If you go to a village, our mothers and sisters can be found in ghunghat (veil),” said Zamirullah Khan.
When asked what purpose would be served by parading anyone naked, the ex-SP MLA said that they would realise the importance of covering oneself.
“Anyone should be allowed to wear anything and go to college to achieve what they want. If someone parading naked is a crime, then uncovering the girls (removing veils) is also a crime. All those people doing such acts are highly ignorant and foolish,” Khan added.
On Wednesday, some girl students from Hindu college in UP’s Moradabad claimed that they were turned away as they were wearing burqas.
The girl students also alleged that their college forbids them from entering the campus while wearing a burqa. They also said college authorities also force them to take off the hijab at the entrance gate.
