Congress kick-started its campaign for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections by promising 200 units of free electricity every month if it comes to power in the state. The party began its statewide bus tour called ‘Praja Dhwani Yatra’ on Wednesday under the leadership of DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah.
During the bus yatra, Congress announced its first “guarantee” in Karnataka saying 200 units of electricity will be provided free of cost to every household every month if the party wins the upcoming Assembly elections.
Calling the promise as ‘Gruha Jyothi Yojana‘, the Congress said that with the rising prices of essential commodities and the issue of unemployment, it is imperative that Karnataka deserves a government that thinks about public welfare and well-being.
“To help Kannadigas fight the onslaught of price rise and save up for essentials such as food, education for children, and healthcare, the Congress government in Karnataka would provide 200 units electricity, free of cost, to every household in Karnataka,” said the party.
The bus tour covering 21 districts will see the party sharing its ideas with the people and assuring all-round development of the state, while attacking the BJP government with a “charge sheet” it has prepared.
As part of the bus yatra, both Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah, who are nursing chief ministerial ambitions in the event of the Congress coming to power, will travel in the same vehicle until January 29.
The Assembly elections in Karnataka are expected to be held before May this year.
