I haven’t achieved anything in my career: Hardik Pandya reveals New Year resolution with eyes on 2023 WC

2022 might have been a year to forget for Indian cricket but it was a memorable one for Hardik Pandya. After a traumatic 2021 which saw him struggle with injuries and form as he was blamed for India’s disastrous T20 WC group stage exit, the star all-rounder made a sensational comeback in 2022.
After taking an almost six-month break from the game to focus on training, Hardik returned fitter, fresher, and better. After being released by Mumbai Indians (MI), he joined Gujarat Titans and quite incredibly led them to the title in their first-ever season in the league.
Hardik’s India comeback was also brilliant as it did not take him long to establish himself as one of the most important players in the squad. Hardik led India for the first time in June during the Ireland series and is now in line to be named the next permanent captain in T20Is. He has also replaced KL Rahul as Rohit Sharma‘s deputy in ODI cricket.
Recalling the year behind him, Hardik called 2022 a ‘magical’ year for him and revealed that things were very different 12 months back. However, he expressed disappointment at not winning the 2022 T20 World Cup and revealed winning the 50-over World Cup being his goal coming into the new year.
“Obviously, one year back, things were quite different. It was my call to go out and get better and it has been a magical year for me. Obviously, we would have liked to win the T20 World Cup but that is part and parcel. It did not happen and that’s alright,” Pandya said in the pre-match press conference.
“Going forward, what do I want to achieve? There’s a lot to achieve. I haven’t achieved anything in my career. So, looking forward to the future and the goal is going to win the World Cup,” he added.
On being asked about his new year resolution, Hardik put his eye on the 2023 World Cup which will take place on home soil in October-November this year.
“The New Year’s resolution is to win the World Cup. I don’t think there can be any bigger resolution than that. Our aim will be to win the World Cup and we will try to do that. We will go out there and give everything and things are looking bright,” said Hardik.
Hardik has been part of the Indian team in 5 ICC events but is yet to lift a trophy. The Men in Blue have not won a global title since 2013.
