A major tragedy was averted after a bomb was found near Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence in Chandigarh on Monday. A bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot.
At around 4 to 4:30 pm, a tubewell operator spotted the live bombshell in the mango plantation near the helipad and residence of the Punjab CM. The bomb was found near the border of Chandigarh’s Kansal and Mohali’s Naya Gaon.
“A live bombshell has been found here. It has been secured with help of Police and Bomb Disposal Squad. An Army team has been called in. The area is being cordoned off. Further investigation is underway,” said Sanjeev Kohli, Nodal officer, Disaster Management, Chandigarh.
The Indian Army’s Western Command has also been looped in to investigate.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was not at his residence during this time. The security around the area has beefed up in view of the incident. The residence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is also in close proximity.
