The year 2022 was a memorable one for Indian middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav – who scored over a 1000 runs in T20 Internationals. Fondly known as SKY, Yadav produced several breathtaking knocks and entertained cricket fans across the globe. Yadav, who has been a key member of Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, left a a witty comment on the MI skipper’s pic with his daughter Samaira.
Sharma, who is currently recovering from an injury, posted a photograph on social media where he was seen holding his daughter Samaira and both looking at the sky. Yadav, who is active on social media, showed his creative side as he wrote a caption that read, “Sammy say hello to Sky.”
Yadav was rewarded for his hard work in white-ball cricket as he was named India‘s vice-captain for T20Is for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.
Speaking to reporters after Day 2 of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, SKY shared his views on becoming Team India’s new captain in T20Is.
“It (vice-captaincy) was not expected. I can only say it’s kind of a reward to me for the way I (have) played this year. It feels good and I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.
Sharing his views on the new development, Yadav said it feels like a dream and it’s the result of years of hard work he has put in his game.
“I closed my eyes and thought,” Is this a dream?” but it felt really nice. It still feels like a dream but it’s the hard work of the past so many years. It was like a seed planted years ago and now the tree has grown up. Now I’m eating the fruits of it. I will try to stretch it as long as I can,” he said.
On professional front, SKY had a stellar run in 2022 – where he is the leading run-getter in T20Is. In 31 matches, Yadav scored 1164 runs at 46. 56. Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan is the second batsman in the list with 996 runs followed by former Indian captain Virat Kohli – who scored 781 runs at 55. 78.
Yadav will be next seen in action during the India-Sri Lanka series in January 2023.
