Delhi’s ambitious Electronic City project: Govt to start the process to hire concessionaire soon

The Delhi government, in this year’s budget, announced a world-class electronic city at Baprola in South-west Delhi and the Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC) submitted a detailed blueprint for the project in October. According to the latest reports, the Aam Aadmi Paty (AAP) government is expected to start the administrative steps to hire a concessionaire to prepare the infrastructure layout of the city.
The private agency, which is collaborating with the government in this project, is preparing a request for proposal to hire the concessionaire, the officials told Times of India. The proposal shall be approved by the cabinet before going ahead. This concessionaire will be tasked with preparing the layout and developing the infrastructure for the electronic city.
The government aims to register Delhi in the global market as a preferred destination for the electronics industry by providing competitive infrastructure, and ensuring ease of doing business. In their blueprint document, the DDC recommended the “plug and play” model, low lease rentals and a single-window facility.
An MoU was signed between DDC Delhi and EPIC Foundation in April 2022 to attract investment and jobs associated with the design, manufacturing, sale and after-sales services of electronic equipment in the city.
In the words of the Vice Chairperson of DDC Delhi Jasmine Shah, the “Electronics City will help boost the design, manufacture, sales and service of electronics to feed domestic as well as global demand by partnering with national and international expert industry organisations. Efforts undertaken towards skilling the workforce in these areas will help improve employment outcomes for workers in Delhi.”
Announcing the electronic city in March this year, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the electronic city in the national capital will create direct 80000 jobs through electronics manufacturing.
The city will be developed over 81 acres in Baprola, which will be easily accessible from the Indira Gandhi International Airport and major national highways such as NH-1, NH-10, NH-8, and NH-2.
