Having dropped on December 12, Besharam Rang was the first song to be released from Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback film Pathaan. While the song was highly anticipated, it has been receiving massive backlash for being ‘vulgar’ and ‘hurting religious and patriotic sentiments.
From home minister of Madhya Pradesh Narottam Mishra to Mahant of Ayodhya’s Hanuman Garhi Raju Das, many have threatened to ban the action movie. The most recent statement was made by BJP MLA Ram Kadam who said that no film insulting Hindutva will be tolerated. In Indore, protests have been held to boycott the film.
While the song has been facing immense criticism due to its costumes and colours, actress Swara Bhasker and actor-politician Prakash Raj have come out in support of the song and the cast. “#Besharam BIGOTS.. So it’s okay when Saffron clad men garland rapists..give hate speech, broker MLAs, a Saffron clad swamiji rapes Minors, But not a DRESS in a film ?? #justasking,” Prakash Raj had tweeted.
