Shreyas Iyer overtakes Suryakumar Yadav to become India’s leading run getter in 2022

After scoring big runs in ODI matches this year, star Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has continued his good run with the bat in the Test matches as well and scored 86 runs in the first innings of the first Test against Bangladesh, which is currently underway at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The 28-year-old rescued India by adding 149 runs for the fifth wicket with Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara after India was reduced to 112 for four in 32 overs.
The right-handed batter remained not out on the first day but was not able to do much on the morning of Day 2 and was only able to add four runs to his tally of 82 runs. He faced a total of 192 balls during his stay at the crease, and with the help of 10 fours, he scored 86 runs. During his 86-run innings that have helped India post a challenging total in the first innings, Shreyas has overtaken Suryakumar Yadav’s run tally for India in 2022 to become the team’s leading run scorer across formats.
Surya is yet to make his debut for India in Test cricket and was rested for the ODI assignment against Bangladesh as well. He scored a total of 1424 runs from 43 innings for India in 2022. Out of the total of 1424, he scored 1164 runs alone in the T20Is. But by his superb show in first innings, Shreyas has now leapfrogged him and has taken the number one position. The Mumbaikar has 1493 runs to his name from 38 innings.
Out of the total of 1493 runs, he scored 463 runs in 17 T20Is, 724 runs in 15 innings of 17 ODIs, and 306 runs in six innings of four Tests.
