R Ashwin once again showed his batting skills and scored a vital half-century to play his part in India breaching the 400-run mark in the first innings of the Chhatogram Test match. The right-handed batsman took his time in the middle and batted with a strike-rate of 51.33 for his score of 58 off 113 balls. Ashwin’s knock saw India getting close to the score of 400. India were bowled 404.
Ashwin’s heroic knock came to an end after he was stumped by Nurul Hasan off Mehidy Hasan. The all-rounder charged down the crease for a big shot but ended up getting stumped. Bangladesh wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan seemingly mocked Ashwin before stumping him.
The 29-year-old did not stump the batter right away and waited for a reaction from him. As Ashwin was grounding his bat, Nurul completed the stumping. A little day could have cost Bangladesh and it wasn’t a smart call by the wicketkeeper.
India added 19 more runs to their total after Ashwin’s dismissal. Kuldeep Yadav also showed his batting skills and scored a vital 40. He faced 114 deliveries. Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan did most of the damage and shared 8 wickets between them.
India made a dream start with the ball as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Najmul Hossain Shanto on the very first delivery of Bangladesh’s innings. Umesh Yadav dismissed Yasir Ali in the 3rd over. Siraj scalped 2 more wickets before the completion of 20th over to leave the hosts reeling at 56/4.

Ealier in the day, Shreyas Iyer missed out on a much-deserved century and was dismissed for 86 off 192. The right-handed batsman only added 4 more runs to his overnight total. Ebadot Hossain dismissed Iyer on the final delivery of the 8th over of the day. Cheteshwar Pujara also missed the elusive 100-run mark.
