‘Laal aankh of Modi government…’: Congress mounts attack at PM over Tawang clash

Stepping up its attack at the Centre over the recent India-China border clash in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang, the Congress  said that Chinese glasses are covering the “red eye” of the Modi government.
“It seems ‘red eye’ of Modi government is covered with Chinese glasses…Is it not allowed to speak against China in the Indian Parliament?” Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said in a tweet in Hindi.
Kharge was referring to the multiple disruptions in Parliament over the opposition’s demand for a discussion on the last week’s border clash.
On Wednesday, Congress MPs staged a walkout in Lok Sabha after the Speaker rejected their demand for a discussion on the clashes.
A violent face-off broke out between Indian and Chinese troops in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh on December 9, which led to injuries to a few personnel on both sides.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in Parliament on Tuesday that the Chinese side tried to “unilaterally” change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control in the Yangtse area of Tawang sector but the Indian Army compelled them to retreat in a firm and resolute manner.
Singh said that none of the Indian soldiers was killed or sustained any serious injury in the violent face-off. He further said that the Indian government took up the issue with Chinese authorities through diplomatic channels.
The Chinese side was asked to refrain from such actions and maintain peace and tranquility along the border, he said.
The Congress and other opposition parties have been slamming the Centre over the violent face-off.
The Congress earlier tweeted a video of Prime Minister Modi’s speech made after the 2020 Galwan clash between Indian and Chinese troops in which he said that “no one occupied our land and no one has entered India and that none of our posts is in occupation of anyone else”.
“If this mistake had not been made. Had China been named, it would not have dared to raise its eyes towards India… There’s still time… don’t be afraid,” the Congress said while referring to the Prime Minister’s speech.
