West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar’s convoy was allegedly attacked by a group of Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters in South 24 Parganas on late Saturday night. Following the attack, several BJP workers staged a protest and blocked roads in South Kolkata.
While speaking to media, Majumdar alleged, “They came to kill me thinking that if I’m killed then BJP will cease to exist in West Bengal. But there are thousands of Sukanta Majumdars in BJP and it’s not possible to finish BJP by finishing me.”
“They tried to attack me and break my car. Thankfully security was there with me. The attackers came with TMC flags. Is TMC giving flags to others? There’s no democracy in West Bengal. We will continue our fight against the government,” he added.
West Bengal’s Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari argued that BJP programmes are drawing huge crowds ahead of panchayat polls in the state and this has instilled fear in TMC.
“Since Panchayat polls are coming & BJP programs are drawing huge crowds, they (TMC) are doing this out of fear. Jungle Raj is going on in Bengal. Today they attacked our state president’s (Sukanta Majumdar) convoy to send a message that don’t stand against us in polls,” said Adhikari.
Meanwhile, BJP workers staged a protest against attack on Majumdar’s convoy in South 24 Parganas. They blocked roads in Selimpur, South Kolkata.
“We are protesting against the attack on our state president’s convoy by blocking roads,” said BJP South Kolkata District President S Chaudhuri.
