Winter session commences; PM welcomes VP Dhankar as Upper House chairman, calls RS “biggest strength”

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar was officiated as the chairman of Rajya Sabha as he made his maiden appearance as the VP in the Parliament in the ongoing winter session.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Dhankar and praised him as RS chairman.
“I congratulate Chairman on behalf of this House as well as the nation. You’ve reached this stage while going ahead in life amid struggles, it’s an inspiration for several people in the country,” PM Modi said.
He also spoke about President Droupadi Murmu and her predecessor, Ram Nath Kovind, saying, “Our respected President Droupadi Murmu Ji hails from a tribal community. Before her, our former President Shri Kovind Ji belongs to the marginalised sections of society and now, our VP is a ‘Kisan Putra’ (son of a farmer). Our VP also has great knowledge of legal matters,” said the PM heaping praises on Vice President Dhankar.
As before the commencement of the session, the PM once again spoke of 75 years of Independence and G20 Presidency and a big opportunity for India in the Upper House of the Parliament as well.
Additionally, heaping praise on the Upper House itself, PM Modi said, “Our Parliament will be the torch bearer of the world in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with ease and responsibility. Rajya Sabha is the biggest strength of the country. Many of our Prime Ministers have worked as members of the Rajya Sabha.”
The winter session of the parliament commenced on Wednesday in New Delhi. Lok Sabha was adjourned as soon as it started.
