India’s tour of Bangladesh got off to the worst possible start as they were beaten by the hosts by 1-wicket in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The Men in Blue will be looking to bounce back and keep themselves in contention to win the series when the two teams line-up for the second game on Wednesday (December 7) at the same venue.
On Tuesday, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan addressed the pre-match press conference and answered a variety of questions as the Men in Blue aim to comeback. The highlight of the veteran Indian cricketers’ interaction with the media was his savage response to a query on the team making a ‘new start.’ The left-handed opener expressed confidence that Team India will make a comeback and claimed what happened in the series opener does not happen often.
“Of course you’d be looking to make a fresh start. You will be looking for a new start tomorrow,” the journalist asked Dhawan who was a bit suprised at the question. “Yeah, of course I can’t do an old start. “Yes, it’s going to be a new start. We are looking forward to it. We are in a positive and good space,” Dhawan replied in his typical witty manner leaving the entire room in splits
“We are very very confident. This is not the first time we have lost the first game in the series. It’s quite normal. We know how to bounce back from these situations. Bangladesh is playing good cricket. The last match was an interesting game, a low-scoring one. In the end, they dragged the game away from us, this doesn’t happen that often. We analysed where we need to improve. We will try to create more impact in the coming games,” he added.
Dhawan celebrated his 37th birthday with the Indian team on Monday (December 5). He posted a video clip on his Instagram account showing him cutting a cake with the entire team including the coaching staff led by Rahul Dravid in attendance.
