‘Somebody ask Elon Musk if Ruturaj is from Mars’: Twitterati hails Maharashtra skipper’s ton in VHT final

Star Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad is in red-hot form these days and is scoring runs for fun. The right-handed batter from Maharashtra is currently playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for his state team and is leading them as well. The 25-year-old opening batter finished as the leading run getter in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last year, and this year as well, he has started right from the same spot where he left off in 2021.
In the 2021-22 season, he scored four centuries in five matches, and this year as well, he matched that tally by smashing his fourth hundred in the final, which is currently underway at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The right-handed batter from Pune came into the final of the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy on the back of scoring 220 not out and 168 in his last two innings, and in the summit clash against Saurashtra, the 25-year-old scored his third straight century to help his team post 248 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets.
The Chennai Super Kings cricketer, who won the Orange Cap in the 2021 IPL season, faced a total of 131 deliveries and, with the help of seven fours and four sixes, scored 108 runs.
Ruturaj, who was the leading run scorer in 2021-22 Vijay Hazare, with a total of 603 runs in five matches last year, improved his tally this year and scored a total of 660 runs from five games.
Impressed by the way he delivered for Maharashtra in this year’s tournament, fans and his fellow cricketers took to Twitter to laud him for his superb show.
With his fourth century in the 2022–23 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Ruturaj breaks former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa’s record of scoring the most number of centuries in the premier domestic tournament. Friday’s hundred was his 12th in Vijay Hazare, and he is now one ahead of Uthappa, who scored 11 hundreds during his playing days. Apart from Uthappa, Gaikwad’s current Maharashtra teammate Ankit Bawne also has 11 centuries to his name.
