Saleem Malik responds to Wasim Akram’s ‘treated me like servant’ allegations, says former pacer wants ‘publicity

Former Pakistan captain Saleem Malik reacted to Wasim Akram’s startling revelations in his biography “Sultan: A Memoir”. Notably, Akram alleged that Malik used to treat him like a “servant” while on tours. Former Pakistani veteran pacer also accused Malik of asking for massages.
Responding to Akram’s accusations, the former batter said that there were laundry machines whenever the team went for tours and they never had to use their hands to wash clothes. Malik further added that if he would have been “selfish” he would have never given the bowl to Akram.
“I wanted to ask him for his view on his comments and in what sense did he write that. We used to go on tour for Pakistan tours, there used to be laundry machines there. He never had to use their hands,” Malik told 24 News.
The former Pakistani skipper further added that until he has a word with Akram or checks his book, he doesn’t want to comment on the issue. Malik said that the way Akram talked about clothes and massage, he was insulting himself.
On Monday, Akram dropped a bombshell, by claiming that he was mistreated by Malik. He would take advantage of my junior status. He was negative, selfish and treated me like a servant. He demanded I massage him; he ordered me to clean his clothes and boots. I was angry when some of the younger team members in Ramiz, Tahir, Mohsin, Shoaib Mohammad invited me to nightclubs,” Akram wrote in his book.
Notably, Akram made his international debut in 1984, two years after Malik. Akram and Malik together in the Pakistan cricket team for several years. From 1992 to 95, Malik captained Pakistan and the veteran bowler played under his captaincy. In 2000, Malik was found guilty of match-fixing and was banned for life from playing cricket.
