Snicko says flat line: Woakes leads reactions after Ronaldo’s ‘Oscar-winning celebration’ claiming goal goes viral

Portugal breezed its way past Uruguay to qualify for Round of 16 in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar. After prevailing 3-2 against Ghana, the Fernando Santos side dominated its second game against the South American giants owing to a Bruno Fernandes special at the packed Lusail Iconic Stadium. The Manchester United midfielder scored a brace, including the final injury-time penalty to leave Uruguay gasping for breath in Group H.
After having the majority of the possession in the first half, Portugal finally managed to get one behind the net as Fernandes’ cross from outside the box went straight into the nets but it appeared as if the Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo got his head in the way. Ronaldo soon went on a celebratory run as it appeared that Ronaldo did get some part of his head on to the ball before it found the net. However, the replays showed that it wasn’t the case.
Even after the match finished, Ronaldo kept claiming that his head did get brushed by the ball on its way, but the goal was eventually registered in Fernandes’ name, who went on to add one more to his tally by the time the game came to a close. However, the viewers couldn’t believe how real Ronaldo’s celebrations were, calling it an Oscar-winning performance.
English cricketer Chris Woakes joined the banter and gave a cricketing analogy saying, “What’s snicko saying on that ‘Ronaldo’ goal? flat line I reckon.” Some lauded Ronaldo for being a team-man as he celebrated Fernandes’ goal so wildly, while many came up with hilarious memes to react to the awkward situation when 89,000 fans watched what really happened on the big screen.
Portugal’s win meant that it became the third team to make make it to the next round after France and Brazil while Uruguay are still winless in the competition.
