‘He won’t come to the field’: Assam CM’s jibe at Rahul Gandhi has cricket connect

In the middle of a ‘carpet bombing’ campaign in Gujarat, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on the Congress. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, busy with the Bharat Jodo Yatra amid Gujarat assembly elections.
“Rahul Gandhi has a habit that I’ve been observing for days. If there’s a cricket match in Guwahati, he’ll be in Gujarat. He will carry a bat and pad in Gujarat too, he’ll keep getting ready but won’t come to the field,” CM Sarma was reported saying by ANI.
The polls are in Gujarat, but he is in the south; when the elections were in Himachal Pradesh, he was in Kerala. He doesn’t want to leave the dressing room because he doesn’t want to play, according to Assam CM.
As per media reports Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who skipped the Himachal Pradesh election campaign, is planning a brief campaign tour for the Gujarat assembly polls beginning November 21.
CM Sarma also responded to Gandhi’s divisive comments on VD Savarkar while addressing a rally in Kutch. According to Assam Chief Minister, the Congress leader lacks a historical grasp of India, and the manner he chose to depict Veer Savarkar reveals his mindset.
He also accused Gandhi of being anti-Hindu and anti-national.
Rahul Gandhi knows nothing about Indian history and his choice of words for Veer Savarkar exposes his ideology as anti-Hindu and anti-national, the Assam CM said.
Gujarat’s 182-member legislative assembly will be elected in two parts on December 1 and 5. The votes will be counted on December 8.
