FIFA World Cup: Poland national team flight escorted to Qatar by F-16 fighter jets

The FIFA World Cup 2022 is set to begin on November 18 in Qatar and the football fans are geaing up for one of the biggest sporting events the world has ever seen. While some of the biggest nations will be participating in the tournament, there are some dark horses who could go a long way in the tournament. One such nation is Poland, who is coming into the tournament amid some tensions in the country due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
In fact, recently a missile was dropped near the Russia-Ukraine border, killing two people, and hence there have been safety concerns for Polish citizens, and also the Poland National team. The Polish team was escorted by some F-16 fighter jets in order to give them protection. The jets reportedly carried the Polish players across the border to give them security.
“We were escorted to the southern border of Poland by F16 planes! Thank you and greetings to the pilots!”, the official account of the Polish national team posted on Twitter.
Poland have a pretty good team with their stars playing in some of the biggest leagues in Europe. However, the bigggest name on the Poland squad in definitely that of elite Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski. They have been place in Group C alongside the Lionel Messi-led Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Mexico. Poland will be in direct competition with Mexico to finish second in the group, as they would look to reach the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup for the first time in history.
The FIFA World Cup 2022 is set to begin on November 20, with a match between hosts Qatar and Ecuador to kick off the proceedings at the mega tournament.
