With focus on Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi likely to skip Winter Session of Parliament

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is unlikely to attend the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament to focus on ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, confirmed party general secretary Jairam Ramesh.
“Congress MP Rahul Gandhi (in file photo) is unlikely to attend the upcoming winter session of Parliament, he will not be skipping Bharat Jodo Yatra,” said Jairam Ramesh.
Bharat Jodo Yatra is an ongoing march started by Congress on September 7 from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. It will cover major states of the country and culminate in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, expectedly in February next year.
The march, which is being helmed by Rahul Gandhi, has been organised against the regime of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The upcoming Winter Session is likely to be held from December 7 to December 29. According to reports, there will be a total of 17 working days in the session.
This will be the first Parliament session during which Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, who is also the chairman of Rajya Sabha, will officiate proceedings in the Upper House.
During the Winter Session, the Congress might also select a replacement for the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, a position earlier occupied by the party’s new president Mallikarjun Kharge, who quit at the time of filing nomination for organisational election to adhere to the party policy of ‘one man, one post’.
The government will be drawing up a list of Bills to be passed during the upcoming session while the Opposition will demand a discussion on pressing matters.
