Mehbooba Mufti says EC conducts election on BJP’s signals, cites example of Himachal Pradesh

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti  slammed the Election Commission of India (ECI) accusing it of working on the BJP’s signals and staying silent when the saffron party breaks the model code of conduct during elections.
She also claimed that the BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir is there to “disrupt” everything and is using people’s struggle to gain votes.
While speaking to media, Mufti said, “Election Commission of India has now become a branch of the BJP. It stays silent, like when BJP campaigned on the basis of religious propaganda in Himachal Pradesh.”
“ECI is no longer independent like it used to be. ECI conducts election on BJP’s signals,” she added.
The voting for 68 Assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh is currently underway and counting of votes is scheduled to be held on December 8.
Shifting focus to Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti said the current government (in J&K) is there to disrupt everything.
“Kashmiri Pandits have been demanding for so long to get relocated to Jammu till the time things get better in Kashmir, but they (govt) stop their incomes, rations. BJP uses their struggle to gain votes,” added the former J&K CM.
Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are mooted to be held in 2023, after a gap of over 9 years. The last Assembly elections in the Valley were held in 2014.
