‘The Kerala Story may topple public tranquility’: CPI(M) writes to MHA, seeks action against controversial movie teaser

The Communist Party of India (Marxist)  wrote to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) seeking action against the controversial teaser of ‘The Kerala Story’ movie. The party argued the movie is disseminating false information and may topple public tranquility.
In the letter, CPI(M) MP John Brittas said, “The movie’s teaser claims to be depicting the story of 32,000 women from Kerala who were radicalised to join ISIS terrorist group, which is absolutely rubbish and fallacious. Such dissemination of grossly false information may lead to inconceivable repercussions and unrest in the society and the same will amount to defaming the State as well. This false narrative is being massively spread over social media.”
“It attempts to picturise to ludicrously fictitious story, claiming as if a true narrative of the actual events. It is not only derogatory in nature but also are afraid to be aimed at causing communal divide and tension between various religions, which therefore entails serious penal consequences,” he wrote.
Brittas went on to assert that the “appalling attempt to assert that 32,000 women had been converted to Islam and sent to Syria and Yemen, is not only highly deplorable but also devoid of any merits. Even the factual data shared by the authorities depict a different picture. The MHA puts the number at 155 all over the country”.
Concluding his letter to the Home Minister, the CPI(M) leader said the deliberate iniquitous attempt is further corroborated by the fact that the concoction has been managed misquoting two former Chief Ministers of Kerala. Their statements have been deliberately twisted and wrongly used to weave a nefarious thread for the purported movie, he added.
“At no stretch of imagination, these narratives could be considered as accidental, but are consciously intended to defame Kerala and to create polarization in the society. Such mischievous actions are to be nipped in the bud.,” said John Brittas.
It should be noted that in the ‘The Kerala Story’ movie’s teaser, actor Adah Sharma – wearing a burqa – is seen saying she was a Hindu woman who was converted to Islam and recruited into the ISIS and presently languishing in a jail in Afghanistan.
She also says in the teaser that this was the story of 32,000 other women from Kerala.
