The murder of Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri has kicked off a political slugfest in Amritsar with parties blaming each other for the fatal attack. Sudhir was killed on a crowded street during a protest in front of Gopal Mandir on November 4.
After his brazen murder, the state government led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is being criticised for the law and order situation in the state. The police, on the other hand, is probing a Khailstan link after a pro-Khalistan organisation Justice League India claimed responsibility for the attack
Sangrur MP Simranjit Singh Mann, however, has linked BJP and RSS to the murder of Sudhir Suri. He claimed that BJP planned the murder to gain sympathy votes.
“It is quite possible that RSS and BJP planned this in view of the Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat Assembly elections, where AAP is also contesting. They are trying to defame AAP in view of the Gujarat and HP elections,” Simranjit Singh Mann said.
Khalistani group’s link suspected
Meanwhile, Khalistani terror group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) has openely offered RS 10 lakh as legal aid to the shooter Sandeep Singh. Designated terror organisation SFJ’s Pannu released a video message and announced Rs 10 lakh as legal aid for Singh.
He said, “I am here to talk on a serious matter related to Punjab. A Hindu extremist Sudhir Suri has been seeking genocide of Sikhs. A Sikh named Sandeep Singh has been accused of killing him. It is essential to say when a political person is shot dead, it is not terrorism. Sandeep Singh did not indulge in a terror attack. He has not done a bomb blast at an Amritsar bus stand. He fired five shots and all bullets hit Sudhir Suri, who demanded genocide of Sikhs.”
Punjab Police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the murder. Briefing media after the incident, Amritsar Police Commissioner Arun Pal Singh said that the shooter is a self-radicalised person.
“SIT has been constituted to probe the murder of Sudhir Suri. Sunny (accused) is in custody and the weapon of crime has also been recovered. SIT will not spare anyone and we will unravel the conspiracy,” Amritsar Police Commissioner Arun Pal Singh said.
He added, “Accused Sandeep Sunny was arrested on the same day of the incident. He committed hate crime after getting radicalised on social media, though it is not the entire part and needs further probe.”
