Dhoni is totally different: BCCI President Roger Binny passes verdict on Rohit Sharma’s captaincy

The 2022 T20 World Cup is a special one for Rohit Sharma as it is the first time he is leading Team India in an International Cricket Council (ICC event). Rohit was appointed India’s T20I skipper following Virat Kohli’s resignation post the 2021 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
India are on verge of making the semi-finals in the global event as a victory over Zimbabwe will take them through as group winners. Ahead of India’s must-win clash on Sunday (November 6) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), BCCI president Roger Binny passed his verdict on Rohit’s captaincy and refused to compare him to past greats like MS Dhoni.
“Rohit is an experienced player. He has played so many matches and been in so many situations. Everyone has a different approach. Dhoni is totally different, you can’t compare him, Kapil or Gavaskar. Each one has a different way of how they operate,” said Binny to reporters on the sidelines of the 90th annual day of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.
Talking about India’s chances at lifting the T20 World Cup, Binny highlighted the need for openers to give India a quick start and make full use of the powerplay. “Rohit is an experienced player. He has played so many matches and been in so many situations. Everyone has a different approach. Dhoni is totally different, you can’t compare him, Kapil or Gavaskar. Each one has a different way of how they operate,” said the BCCI President.
“Most teams prefer to chase down the total because the wickets are such, it keeps getting slower and slower as the game goes on,” he added.
Binny was an integral part of the Indian team that won the 1983 World Cup. In fact, he was the Kapil Dev-led side’s highest wicket-taker in the competition.
