In the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli has impressed with his performance in the four matches played so far. With the help of three unbeaten fifties, the right-handed batter has played a big role in Team India’s dominant show. The two-time Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup, Virat started his 2022 campaign by playing probably the best innings of his career against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday (October 23). He single-handedly helped India chase down the total of 160 runs in 20 overs.
Virat, who was struggling with form in the first half of 2022, remained unbeaten on 82 runs from 53 balls against Pakistan. And in the next matches against the Netherlands and Bangladesh, he again scored unbeaten fifties.
Impressed by Virat’s heroics in the ongoing megaevent, former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar was full of praise for the Indian batter and said that it was Virat’s destiny and the tournament is being played only to showcase his unmatched skills with the bat.
“This T20 World Cup is all about Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli has done wonders since the World Cup started. Usne runs k pahad khade kar diye. Lagta aise he hai ki ye World Cup us k liye he karaya gaya tha. He is playing as if there is no tomorrow. That’s Virat Kohli for you. Today also, he made 64 runs, and India made 184. If God wills it, then it happens. He was down for about three years, and now he’s the top scorer in this T20 World Cup. The World Cup is being played for him only. I’m sure of this now. I’m also sure that he will continue his stellar form and score even more runs in the coming days for India. Having said that, I think India played really well and deserved to win today,” said Akhtar on his Youtube channel after India’s win over Bangladesh on Wednesday.“They could’ve put the match in jeopardy, but they did not do that. India has done really well. Pakistan was praying for India to lose the game somehow. Pakistan’s match against South Africa will be a tough one. It’s going to be one hell of a game. It’s not going to be easy for Pakistan,” Akhtar added.
In their fifth Group 2 match of the Super 12 stage on Sunday (November 6), India will now face Zimbabwe, and a win will take them through to the semifinals, irrespective of any ifs and buts.
