Hardik Pandya, Shikhar Dhawan to lead Team India in New Zealand T20I and ODI series; Rohit, Virat rested

Hardik Pandya has been named the captain of the Indian team for the three-match T20I series against New Zealand while Shikhar Dhawan will retain the captaincy for the ODI series. Rishabh Pant will be the vice-captain in both series while both Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli have been rested. Hardik is also not part of the ODI series side.
The tour of New Zealand will be India’s first assignment after the ongoing T20 World Cup where the team is scheduled to play three T20Is and three ODIs. The first T20I on November 18 will be played just five days after the 2022 T20 World Cup final. Following which, two more matches in the shortest format will take place on November 20 and November 22.
This will be followed by a three match ODI series with the matches taking place on November 25, November 27, and November 30. There is no red-ball series scheduled in this tour of Team India to New Zealand.
Incidentally last year, New Zealand had visited India at the same time just days after the 2021 T20 World Cup finished. This was Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid’s first series in charge since taking over Team India captain and head coach respectively. The series opener had taken place just three days after the Black Caps’ defeat to Australia in the summit clash of the T20 WC in Dubai.
