1984 anti-Sikh riots: BJP leader, senior lawyer demand ‘Truth Commission’ in letter to PM Modi, HM Shah

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson RP Singh,  wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting him to establish a ‘Truth Commission’ to expose the conspiracy behind the 1984 Sikh pogrom. Separately, senior advocate Harinder Singh Phoolka wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that the ‘genocide of Sikhs in Delhi was planned by Mrs Indira Gandhi during her lifetime’ and demanded the constitution of the Truth Commission to unravel the truth.
In his letter to HM Shah, Singh urged Shah to declassify the documents pertaining to Operation Blue Star and the 1984 sikh riots. Expressing grattitude to PM Narendra Modi for providing justice to the victims of 1984 anti Sikh riots by sentencing one of the key conspirators of the 1984 riots, Sajjan Kumar, Singh said that many like ‘Jagdish Tytler and Kamal Nath are still roaming scot-free’.
“However, full justice is not yet delivered. Many more like Jagdish Tytler and Kamal Nath are still roaming scot-free. It has been known earlier as well and has also been authenticated by former Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) officer, GBS Sidhu in his book– The Khalistan Conspiracy– that a conspiracy for Operation Blue Star and Sikh Carnage was hatched in Delhi much before the time of its execution and that these both were planned in the wake of 1985 general elections,” RP Singh said.
In his letter to PM Narendra Modi, Phoolka alleged that there is ‘enough evidence to show that the genocide of Sikhs was planned during the lifetime of Mrs Gandhi and probably under her instructions’.

What happened on October 31, 1984

“I earnestly request you to take immediate steps in this regard and give justice to victims who are citizens of this country and waiting since four decades with bated breath for the truth to finally come out,” he said in his letter. Then PM Indira Gandhi was assassinated at on 31 October 1984 at her residence in Safdarjung Road, New Delhi. Following Indira Gandhi’s death on October 31, 1984, riots broke out in the streets of Delhi between November 1-3, 1984.
Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar has been lodged in jail after being convicted by the Delhi High Court in 2018 in another riots-related case. Earlier he was acquitted by Karkardooma Court.
