Indian captain Rohit Sharma registered a massive milestone in India’s ongoing clash against South Africa in the 2022 T20 World Cup at the Optus Stadium in Perth. With two wins in their first two matches including a memorable victory against Pakistan; the Men in Blue have come into the all-important Super 12 clash with their confidence sky-high.
After taking the field in Perth, Rohit achieved a major milestone by becoming the most capped player in the history of the Men’s T20 World cup. The outing against South Africa is Rohit’s 36th match in the history of the marquee event taking him one clear of Tilakaratne Dilshan (35).
It’s worth remembering that Rohit is one of only two players to have played all eight editions of the T20 World cup alongside Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan. Rohit made his T20I debut in the 2007 edition of the tournament and played an important role in helping India win the tournament.
Overall, Rohit has 919 runs at an average of 36.76 with nine half-centuries to his name in the history of competition and is the fourth-highest run-scorer across all editions.
Rohit’s landmark outing has proven to be a nightmare so far as he managed to make only 15 runs in 14 balls. His dismissal led to a major collapse as India lost their first five wickets in just 9 overs. Lungi Ngigi proved to be India’s nemesis with a four-wicket haul that included the wickets of Rohit, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya.
India’s hopes of a third consecutive victory after facing a major threat with South African bowling running riot over the Indian attack.
