PM Modi wants minimum presence of govt in life of public: Kiren Rijiju on removal of archaic laws

Union Law Miniter Kiren Rijiju  said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants the least interference or minimum presence of the government in the life of citizens. He also added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government is trying to do away with all the obsolete and archaic laws.
The Union Minister of Law while talking to the media said, “Some old laws work as impediments to the normal life of common people, and we have to reduce the compliance burden on people. PM Modi desires that common people should live peacefully and there should be the minimum presence of government in their lives.”
Adding that his government already removed over 1500 archaic laws, Rijiju said, “We’ve decided to remove all obsolete and archaic laws enacted a long time back and have no relevance in today’s time, from the statute box. Unnecessary laws are a burden for the common man and must be reduced.”
Earlier this week, Union Minister Rijiju sparked a controversy with his remarks against judges of Supreme and High courts. He said that most judges these days spend half of their time deciding who to appoint as judges.
He also termed the collegium system “opaque” and described the Indian selection system as the only one where judges appoint judges — comments that some former judges described as “unjustified”.
Rijiju in his remarks at an event held in Ahmedabad called Sabarmati Samvad, organised by the weekly magazine Panchajanya (the magazine published by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), also said that there are a bunch of 40-50 lawyers who have created a “monopoly” in the Supreme Court just because they speak good English.
