Former Indian cricketer Roger Binny, who played a big role in Kapil Dev-led Team India clinching the World Cup title in 1983, was appointed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president on October 18 as he replaced former India captain Sourav Ganguly for the top job. A day after the appointment, popular sports anchor Mayanti Langer, who is married to Stuart Binny, took to social media to post an adorable photo.
Binny posted the photograph of the sports page which had the coverage of Roger Binny’s appointment as the BCCI president with her son’s hand on the page.
The 91st Annual General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was held in Mumbai. Notably, Binny was the only candidate to have filed a nomination for the top post and was the frontrunner to replace Ganguly.
In his first interaction as the BCCI chief, Binny said his two main areas of focus would be reducing the number of injuries in the team and improving the quality of pitches in the country.
“As the BCCI president, I want to primarily focus on two things. First is the prevention of injuries to the players. Jasprit Bumrah got injured just before the World Cup, which affected the whole plan. Second, I want to focus on the pitches in the country,” BCCI president Roger Binny told ANI.
Binny has represented India in 27 Test matches and 72 ODIs. The right-arm speedster claimed 47 wickets in Tests while also picking 77 in ODIs. He was a crucial contributor to India’s first-ever World Cup victory being the highest wicket-taker for India in the 1983 World Cup with 18 scalps.
