‘Mera aisa feeling hai…’: Surya’s advice to Karthik in warm-up match vs AUS backfires horribly

Team India batter Suryakumar Yadav has been in sensational form in T20Is in 2022 and continued his glorious touch with the bat when the Men in Blue faced Australia in the T20 World Cup warm-up game. While runs have flowed from his bat, which has done a lot of talking in recent times, same couldn’t be said about his advices.
Surya’s advice landed Dinesh Karthik in trouble as he suggested a particular field which the bowler might bowl to, however, Australia made a clever field change quickly and the veteran wicket-keeper batter fell into the trap. Karthik had already hit a four and a six and was batting well on 20 but couldn’t continue for long.
The incident took place in the 17th over of India’s innings when Surya almost predicted what the pacer Kane Richardson was going to bowl. He suggested the same to Karthik as he could be heard on the stump mic saying, “Point ke peeche daalega mera aisa feeling hai (He might bowl behind point, that is my feeling.)” The advice quickly backfired as fielder from deep point came inside the circle and the one at mid wicket went back and on the next delivery, Karthik hit the full delivery from Richardson straight into the hands of the fielder Glenn Maxwell, who ran a bit to his left from deep mid-wicket.
Surya, however, continued and brought up a well-compiled half-century to help India get to 180. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin did his bit as he smashed a six in the end as India finished on 186/7.
As it turned out, the six hit by Ashwin proved to be a game-changer as the win margin for India was six runs. Australia were cruising during their batting innings as captain Aaron Finch smashed a 54-ball 76 but a better show with the ball at the death meant the hosts still required 11 runs off the last over.
Skipper Rohit Sharma called up Mohammed Shami from nowhere and the pacer delivered taking three wickets in four balls, in addition to a run out.
