Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that there is archaeological evidence to prove that even thousands of years ago, India was a major maritime power and part of major sea trade routes. Reviewing the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal in Gujarat, via video conferencing, PM Narendra Modi said that India had great maritime kingdoms in the past, but India’s maritime history was forgotten.
“We have archaeological evidence proving that even thousands of years ago, India was a maritime power & part of major sea trade routes… Heritage complex being built in Lothal will be a great source of info for common man about India’s rich maritime history spanning centuries,” PM Modi said.
Adding that India’s maritime heritage is one of those essential topics that hasn’t been discussed extensively as it was ignored, PM Narendra Modi said that the shackles of colonialism impeded our maritime prowess. “We’ll bring back the glory of Dholavira & Lothal. We’re seeing rapid progress in this mission,” PM Narendra Modi further said.
PM Modi further added that the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal will act as a centre for learning about India’s diverse maritime history. PM’s reference to India’s maritime prowess comes days after the Centre added Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Rajmudra in the Indian Navy flag in a bid to pay tribute to the great Maratha warrior who was among the first ones to realise the importance of securing India’s maritime borders. The NMHC has been conceptualised to showcase India’s rich and diverse maritime heritage.
