Actor Satyajeet Dubey is on a high. His slice of life film Aye Zindagi has managed to carve a mark among the critics and audience alike with its sensitive portrayal of the journey of a young liver cirrhosis patient. Satyajeet plays the lead, who after a shocking diagnosis slips out of control and whose unlikely bond with a hospital grief counsellor Revathi, rekindles his hope and faith in life.
In a way Aye Zindagi is a film that celebrates the triumph of humanity and love in its truest form, and for lead actor Satyajeet, showing compassion and humanity is nothing new, or alien.
The actor had, while exclusively talking to Times Now Digital revealed that the reason Aye Zindagi resonated with him at an immensely personal level was for the fact that he has been privy to personal tragedies, which have, in turn, given him a deeper insight to those suffering and the ones suffering along with them.
“The core of the film is when you are going through a lot of trauma and grief, and in the midst of all that you still empathise with someone else’s pain and sorrow and do something for them. That is the greatest act of humanity and the film is all about that. It is a human drama about hope,” said the 32-year-old actor, before revealing, how a moment of empathy from his end had guaranteed better lives for at least two people.
“I remember, I was thirteen when my tauji (paternal uncle) passed and something struck me. I remember running up to my grandmother and telling her that why don’t we donate his eyes.”
“And that one thing allowed a 6 year old blind girl could see and a 65-year old lady, who lost her eye sight some 25 years ago, got her vision back,” the Aye Zindagi actor who started his career with a Shah Rukh Khan production, revealed.
Satyajeet revealed that between 1998 and 2004, he lost a lot of people close to him and as a child; the stage became an escape route for him. However, the pain and angst of the losses somehow stayed within the crevices of Satyajeet’s mind, rearing up when the actor started reading the script of Aye Zindagi, both intriguing and overwhelming him at the same time.
Aye Zindagi released in theatres on October 14 and stars Satyajeet Dubey, Revathi and Mrinmayee Godbole in pivotal roles.
