Aviation data firm OAG recently released the world’s busiest top 10 flight routes’ list which feature two international routes from India. The two routes separately connect the financial capital Mumbai and the national capital Delhi to Dubai.
Mumbai-Dubai and Delhi-Dubai flight routes are amongst the top 10 list busiest global international routes, according to the report. While the Mumbai-Dubai route is the eighth busiest flight route globally, the Delhi-Dubai route is the 10th busiest.
Airlines flew 1.97 million seats in 12 months leading up to September on the Mumbai-Dubai route and 1.9 million seats were flown on Delhi-Mumbai route.
The top 10 busiest flight routes list featured mostly west Asian airports with Dubai leading the pack as it features among five of the top 10 global routes. Before the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019, the busiest international flight route was between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore Changi. It is now the only intra-Asian route to appear in the top 10 list at number five.
Meanwhile, India is witnessing a rise in route capacity with two routes in the top 10 busiest international list, the OAG report stated. It also looked at the most competitive routes in the world with Bangkok-Delhi route being the most competitive. Seven airlines operate nearly 2,700 flights.
In top 10 busiest domestic routes, Mumbai-Delhi is at number seven. Nine of the top 10 busiest domestic routes operate within the Asia-Pacific. The busiest domestic route is between Jeju International Airport and Seoul Gimpo International Airport (CJU-GMP) in South Korea. CJU-GMP has remained in first position throughout the pandemic, said OAG.
