Poorest of poor should understand: PM Modi roots for laws to be written in lucid, regional languages

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often highlighted the need to bring reforms in the current judicial system, and has once again, suggested that the language of the laws should be simple and lucid so that every Indian can understand it. The prime minister said that there’s a need to write the laws in regional language so that message reaches the last possible denominator. He was addressing the inaugural session of the All India Conference of Law Ministers and Secretaries.
Addressing the conference, PM Modi said, “It is important for us to break the shackles of colonialism by removing and regressing colonial laws, then only India can progress in the true sense. In the last eight years, we removed 32,000 compliances to improve ease of living.”
He further added that while making laws it is important to formulate and record them in a way that the message could reach the poorest of the poor.
“While making laws, our focus should be that even the poorest of the poor can understand the new legislation well. Legal language should not become a barrier for any citizen. Every state should work for this also. For this, we will also need logistic and infrastructure support,” the PM added.

PM Modi on the importance of mother language

The prime minister also noted that the academic system in legal studies should be created for the youth in their mother language or regional language to make it easier for the students to grasp.
“Let our laws be written in the simple and intuitive language. The Digital library of important cases of the High Court and Supreme Court should be in the local language,” Prime Minister emphasised.
Referring to the e-court’s mission, PM Modi said technology has become an integral part of the judicial system in India, especially in the Covid-19 world.
“Digital innovations in legal services like virtual hearing and e-filing are already launched in India and 5G services would further strengthen these technologies,” he said.
