In white-ball cricket, while the West Indies have always been a force to reckon with, they would be without the services of several big names in Australia. Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Chris Gayle – who have done wonders for the Men in Maroon over the last many years, will not be seen in Australia as West Indies will look to prove their mettle with the new squad.
Not to forget, West Indies are the most successful franchise in the Men’s T20 World Cup, having won the tournament in 2012 and 2016. While it was Carlos Brathwaite – who smashed Ben Stokes for four successive sixes in the 2016 final, WI won their maiden World Cup title in 2012 where they defended a 137-run total against Sri Lanka.
This year, Nicholas Pooran will have the onus to score big knocks after taking the white-ball captaincy from Pollard. Jason Holder, Evin Lewis, Rovman Powell and Kyle Mayers are some of the batters who would be expected to deliver the goods while the bowling will revolve around Akeal Hosein and Holder. Lack of an experienced spinner is something which might hurt the Windies in Australia

Earlier, in an interview with timesnownews.com, sharing his views on Russell’s absence from the Windies squad, former West Indies bowler Fidel Edwards said, “For me, I don’t care much about the selection of the team. They have their reasons about why they did not pick certain players but Andre Russell is going to be a big miss as he is one of the best T20 players in the world. For me, West Indies still have a lot of good players and if they perform to the best of their abilities, they can pull off a surprise for all other teams.”
