KCR’s BRS starts its national journey on wrong foot, shows wrong map of India in Hyderabad banners

Newly-renamed Bharat Rashtriya Samiti (BRS), previously TRS, has fallen into controversy after some of its leaders erected banners in Hyderabad showing wrong map of India. According to Opposition’s claims, the map visible in the BRS banners is often used by Pakistan.
BRS leaders, including Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagendar, erected banners at few places in the Hyderabad city. A couple of banners were installed at the prominent Somajiguda area.
The banners show regional leaders of the party, party supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao and a partially visible map of India behind KCR’s picture. However, the Indian map was observed by some as incomplete.
The map with annexation of part of Jammu and Kashmir was used in the banners which is normally used by Pakistan. Few BJP leaders are calling it a violation of Indian Constitution and demanding action against the Telangana ruling party.
Last week, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) changed its name to ‘Bharat Rashtra Samiti’ (BRS) heralding the party’s foray into national politics.
A resolution to this effect was passed at the party’s general body meeting in Hyderabad. Party president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao read out the resolution and announced that the party’s general body meet unanimously resolved to change the name from TRS to BRS.
TRS activists who gathered outside the party headquarters in the capital city, the venue for the meeting, burst into celebration soon after the announcement.
It was in 2001 that KCR had floated TRS to revive the movement for separate statehood to Telangana. After achieving the goal in 2014 following a 13-year-long struggle, he formed the first government in the new state and retained power in 2018.
