The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on October 2 announced the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa. Rajat Patidar, who made a big impact in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and carried his form into domestic cricket, was rewarded by the selectors with a maiden call-up to the 50-over side. Veteran Indian keeper Dinesh Karthik was delighted with Patidar’s section.
Karthik, who is currently a part of the Indian T20I team, took to social media to share his views where he said that now Sarfaraz Khan and Indrajith Baba should also be considered for a maiden call-up in Tests as there was plenty of talent in India’s domestic circuit.
“So happy to see Rajat patidar there , so deserves this selection. Well done to Mukesh Kumar too. Now Sarfaraz Khan and Indrajith baba into the test scheme of things . Can’t ignore such brilliant performers and performances.Theyve just been phenomenal. TALENT APLENTY,” tweeted Karthik.
Along with Patidar, Mukesh Kumar is another cricketer who has received his maiden call-up.
Khan has been one of the most consistent performers in India’s domestic circuit. In Ranji Trophy 2019-20, Sarfaraz scored 928 runs at an average of 154.66 which included three centuries and two half-centuries, with the best individual score of 301*.
The season wasn’t a fluke as he followed it with yet another stellar show in the Ranji Trophy. In the 2021-22 season, he ended up as the top-scorer in the competition with 982 runs at an average of 122.75. Sarfaraz smashed four centuries and two half-centuries with a best individual score of 275. He also scored a ton in the final, which Mumbai lost to Madhya Pradesh.
His purple patch continued in Duleep Trophy 2022, where he scored a match-winning 127* in the final for West Zone and 34 runs in the second innings. It was not the end as Khan also hit a hundred came in Irani Cup 2022.
