The past month has come as a source of big joy for Indian cricket fans across the nation as it has allowed them to witness some of their heroes from yesteryears back in action during the ongoing Road Safety World series that is taking place in multiple venues across the nation.
The 2022 edition has seen teams from eight countries taking part in the competition with ex-players from all countries taking part in the blockbuster event. It is the Indian team which has seen the biggest star attraction with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar leading the side which consists of Suresh Raina, Yuraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Yusuf Pathan.
The final of the second edition is set to take place on Saturday (October 1) with the Indian legends team set to play against their counterparts from Sri Lanka in what will be a repeat of the summit clash from the 2021 edition at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
In the semi-finals, which was forced into being a two-day affair due to rain, the Tendulkar-led outfit battled past the Shane Watson-led Australia in what was a thrilling game. It was Irfan Pathan that turned out to be India’s hero with the bat as he played a sensational knock to take the Men in Blue over the line. Before Irfan’s heroics, Naman Ojha had given the team a brilliant start with a knock of 90 in just 62 balls.
Chasing a total of 171, Pathan scored 37 runs in just 12 balls and remained unbeaten on the crease as India completed a 5-wicket victory. After the game, Tendulkar had a playful conversation with Irfan’s son and credited his father for the victory.
“How did we win the game today? He (Pathan) went and hit [tup tup tup] sixes. That’s why we won,” Tendulkar was heard saying in the video clip posted by Irfan on his Instagram account.
Irfan is also currently taking part in the Legends League cricket tournament where he is leading the Bhilwara Kings. Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and Harbhajan Singh are captains of the other three teams.
