Archana reveals she feels ‘cheated’ as an actor; says she will follow Neena Gupta’s footsteps and ‘ask for work’

Archana Puran Singh has been active in the entertainment industry for more than 40 years now. She has starred in more than 100 films in her career and is popularly known for her role as Miss Braganza in Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Archana, who is currently seen as a judge in The Kapil Sharma Show, has also featured in movies like Mohabbatein, Agneepath, Dolly Ki Doli, Masti, and many others. The actress, however, feels that she has been typecast and also revealed that she feels “deprived” and “cheated” as an actor.
Archana Puran Singh became a household name when she was judging Comedy Cirkus. She was also recently witnessed as a judge alongside Shekhar Suman in the stand-up comedy show India’s Laughter Champion.
Recently, while speaking to a publication, Archana Puran Singh talked about how she feels being typecast as an actor. She told Indian Express during a chat, “That chhaap (image) is so solid. Also, a lot of people feel that what should they offer me after Ms. Briganza. It’s been almost 25 years since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai released. And the character is still following me. People also feel that I am best suited only for comedy. As an actor, I feel deprived, cheated and I have been left yearning for good roles.”
She further said that she would follow in the footsteps of Neena Gupta where the latter openly asked for work on social media. Archana was quoted saying, “They say if you keep getting the same roles, it means you are very lucky, that people want to keep watching you. However, I feel it’s the death of an actor. I remember Neena Gupta had once posted on social media seeking work, I guess I will take this opportunity to ask for work from directors and producers.”
Archana then further said that she is “dying to perform” and wants the audience to see other “aspects of her craft”. She continued, “I can do so much more than just comedy. Main ro bhi sakti hu, rula bhi sakti ho (I can cry and make people cry too). That side of me is yet to be explored but I am sure it will happen one day.”
